Condolence following the tropical cyclone

Visit by the Vice President of the Republic Of Cuba Honorable Gladys Bejerano Portella to Embassy to convey a message of condolence following the tropical cyclone that struck Zimbabwe in 2019

On 29 March 2019, the Vice President of the Council of State and General Comptroller Republic of Cuba, Honorable Gladys Bejerano Portella called on the Zimbabwean Embassy in Cuba to convey a message of condolence on behalf of the Government and the people of Cuba. The Vice President was accompanied by the Cuban Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Rogelio Sierra Diaz and journalists from the Cuban Broadcasting Services.

Prior to her signing the Book of Condolence, the Vice President, expressed deep sympathy and profound sadness at the loss of lives and wide-spread destruction of property caused by the Cyclone Idai. The Vice President then expressed solidarity with the victims of the Cyclone, the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, His Excellency, E.D. Mnangagwa and the people of Zimbabwe.

The Vice President further highlighted that Cuba stands ready to assist Zimbabwe in exchanging early warning and natural disaster mitigation knowledge since the country experiences yearly hurricanes which run from June to November.
